Peony, voor het kleine verhaal...

De Chinese pioen staat op zijn hoge stengel en charmeert met zijn ronde kop, samengesteld uit een veelheid aan bloembladen. Deze oosterse schoonheid, symbool van de liefde in haar land van oorsprong, verleidt de romantische... en de bloemisten: ze is een mooi boeket! In de heldere tinten van het begin werden vele kleuren toegevoegd, sommige ondersteund, van fuchsia tot felrood tot paars. De bloemen kunnen eenvoudig zijn (een of twee rijen bloembladen), semi-dubbel (meerdere rijen bloembladen, de meeldraden zijn zichtbaar), Japans (één of twee rijen bloembladen, de meeldraden zijn zichtbaar), dubbel (de bloembladen zijn talrijk en verberg de meeldraden), of bolvormig (de bloembladen in het midden vormen een koepel).

Sommige soorten zijn geurende, zoals de "Festiva Maxima" met witte bloemblaadjes met rode vlekken, "Dr. Alexandre Fleming" met de fel roze bloem, of de "Hertogin van Nemours" met mooie witte pompons.

Goede zorg voor pioenrozen

Kruidachtige pioenen genieten van een neutrale bodem en een lichte belichting en worden beschermd tegen tocht. Ze bloeien van april tot juni, afhankelijk van de soort. Gekocht in containers, worden ze bij voorkeur aan het einde van de zomer geplant in een groot gat, met een handvol compost om de aarde te verrijken. Je kunt ze in je moestuin installeren: ze houden van de bewerkte grond en het gezelschap van groenten en kruiden.

Water de eerste zomer, dan onthouden, behalve in geval van droogte: de pioen is bang voor overmatig vocht. Voeg meststof (mest, compost of beendermeel) toe vroeg in de herfst en in de lente na de bloei. Als je pioenrozen niet bloeien in de vroege jaren, blijf dan geduldig. Ze kunnen een beetje tijd nodig hebben om te bloeien, maar eenmaal correct geïnstalleerd, zullen ze elk jaar meer bloemen produceren...
