De galga (Galega officinalis) Ook wel valse indigo, Goat Street, Lilac Spanje of Lavanèse is een prachtige plant Fabaceae die wild in verse plaatsen en de randen van hout, maar wees voorzichtig, het is niet vrij van toxiciteit, ook wanneer het droog is, vooral als de dieren grazen.

Galega officinalis is een winterharde vaste plant die een meter kan bereiken in de hoogte, met sterk vertakte rechtopstaande stengels die dichte klonten die verspreid vormen. De bladeren zijn samengesteld uit 9 tot 17 groene blaadjes aan de onderkant en blauwachtig aan de bovenzijde. Een bladoksels, langwerpige bloemtrossen Papilionaceae blauwachtig, paars of wit, zeer populair bij de bijen, bloeien van juni tot september. Ze worden gevolgd door bruine peulen met zaden die bijdragen aan het spontaan zaaien.

De galéga is heel mooi voor siergebruik en heeft een licht beschaduwde locatie nodig, in een lichte grond, humusachtig, tamelijk rijk. Omdat de plant de neiging heeft uit te spreiden, moet er ten minste 60 cm tussen elke voet worden gehouden. Je kunt het in de lente of herfst verdelen of zaden verzamelen die je in de lente zaait.

Wees voorzichtig, de plant kan behoorlijk invasief worden, tenzij je de verdorde bloemen snijdt door de plant flink te vouwen voordat de peulen verschijnen.

Verschillende siervariëteiten zijn beschikbaar zoals Galega 'His Majesty', met tweekleurige roze en witte mauve bloemen, Galega 'Orientalis', met paarse blauwe bloemen, Galega 'Candida' met witte bloemen, Galega 'Lady Wilson', met tweekleurige paarse en witte bloemen...

De medicinale eigenschappen van galga

De plant bevat tannines, flavonoïden, saponosiden en alkaloïden, waaronder galégine, die de mogelijkheid heeft om de bloedsuikerspiegel te verlagen. Gallegas hebben ook diuretische eigenschappen.

Het zijn de hypoglycemische deugden van Galéga die in het verleden zijn succes hebben behaald, waardoor het een echte vervanging is voor insuline.

Maar sinds de Renaissance was de Galéga ook gespot om de verpleegsters melk te geven. Het werd ook zweetdrijvend en giftig genoemd.

Wanneer de plant bloeit en vruchten draagt, alle bovengrondse delen blijken giftig voor dieren, ze verbruiken vers of gedroogd in hooi, rue bijvoorbeeld 400 g geitenkaas vers of 100 g droge rue geit zeer snel geit te doden of een schaap, door verstikking.

Gallega wordt gekocht in de apotheek of in kruidengeneeskunde. Het wordt op verschillende manieren gepresenteerd en gebruikt:

  • in infusie van de bloeiende bovengrondse delen,
  • in vloeistofextract of moedertinctuur.

Vanwege de toxiciteit van galgae in hoge doses, moet de dosering de indicaties van de apotheker of natuurgeneesheer respecteren, zonder langdurig gebruik.

Het gebruik van planten om te genezen moet worden gedaan door het vragen aan een arts, apotheker of kruidkundige. Zwangere vrouwen, mensen met chronische en ernstige ziekten of medicijnen moeten een arts raadplegen voordat zelfmedicatie kan leiden tot bijwerkingen, waaronder interacties met geneesmiddelen.
